World Bank agriculture economist, Adetunji Oredipe, say di way and manner Naija take dey import food, is not only dangerous and irresponsible, but we kontri dey on borrowed time.
Oga Oredipo yarn dis ‘borrowed time’ talk, on Thursday for di Agriculture Summit Africa wey Sterling Bank arrange, he say Naija suppose dey get alert of at least $10 billion, if to se wey hold ground for palm oil, cocoa and groundnut production alone.
He say Naija spend $965million to import wheat, $39.7million for rice and $100.2m for sugar inside 2016. He para say how Naija with all di river, sea, lakes and creek wey full di kontri, go spend $655million to import fish, If nor be financial irresponsibility wey worry us? He say all dis money wey we dey spend to import food, nor dey sustainable economically or politically at all, he say “Nigeria is living on borrowed time.”
